Doc Searls
Well recognized and respected as technology writer, blogger and academician extraordinaire, Doc Searls’ work as journalist, speaker and digital advocate has earned him numerous awards including the first annual Google O’Reilly Open Source Award for Best Communicator. Doc earned that distinction through his work as Senior Editor of Linux Journal, co-author of the bestselling book The Cluetrain Manifesto and by his dedication to the topic via his blog that is one of the most widely read and quoted in the world.
Doc became a Fellow with the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University in 2006; there his work focuses upon three areas: the growing power and independence of individuals in networked markets; the need for user-centric identity technologies and standards; and the importance of both to the continued freedom and growth of the internet.
He is currently conducting research for a widely-anticipated, and perhaps revolutionary book focused upon individual empowerment in networked markets—and the role that empowerment holds on the healthy growth of the internet.
Doc has a B.A. in Philosophy from Guilford College, and is a Visiting Scholar with the Center for Information and Society at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
